2020 wasn’t our year. It was anyone’s year. is undoubtedly the most understated 2020 statement.
The brilliant TV that we had to watch was a welcome silver lining in a year of doom. Even during a pandemic there were many unmissable TV series, from Normal People to I May Destroy You. These shows dominated conversations and provided a safe haven of captivating stories that we could get lost in. They also introduced us to some of the actors who are now our favourites, such as Daisy Edgar Jones, Paul Mescal and Weruche Opia.
Due to the Covid-19 epidemic last year, many upcoming TV series were delayed. Production was also delayed on almost every studio project. Filming on many delayed projects was slowing resuming, and it became apparent that there are plenty of great TV shows we can look forward to, even though we may have to wait a bit longer.
These are the New TV Series you won’t want to miss in 2021, as well as a reminder of successful shows that you can still catch on streaming sites.
1 Succession Season Two HBO
It’s almost as if we’ve been waiting for Successionseason wo since forever. So you can see our excitement when we know that it’s only days away. The Roy family will deal with the aftermath from Kendall’s press conference, which saw him attempt his father’s downfall, in the next season on HBO.
2 You Season Three – Netflix
We are almost at the end of season three, You. We can’t wait for Joe and Love to discover what lies ahead. The season will show the couple navigate parenting with Henry and suburban life, while fighting their urges for stalking and killing. They’re not going to make it through the first hurdle …?.
3 Maid – Netflix
This is a powerful story about Margaret Qualley, a 25-year old mother-of-one who learns to be independent from her abusive ex, despite living in poverty and being homeless. We couldn’t be more inspired by Stephanie Land’s New York Times bestseller memoir.
4 Modern Love Season 2 Amazon Prime Video
The second season of the series, which is based upon the New York Timescolumn with the same name, where authors submit their experiences about love in all its forms, has been confirmed by a cast that rivals the first.
Season one featured Anne Hathaway and Dev Patel as well as Tina Fey in very moving episodes. Season 2 features Lucy Boynton and Kit Harington as well as Minnie Driver, Anna Paquin, and Minnie Driver.
Netflix – 5 Sex Education Series 3
We’re guessing that the third installment of Sexual Education will continue from season 2’s cliffhanger with Maeve or Otis. The highly-rated Netflix series has resumed filming the third series. We’re hoping it will arrive next year.
6-9 Perfect Strangers – Amazon Prime Video
Based on Liane Moriarty’s hit book Big Little Lies, this eight-part series Nine Perfect Strangers tells the story about a wellness retreat that opens its doors to nine people ‘who have no clue what’s coming to them.
The Big Little Lies production team – and starring Nicole Kidman. Other cast members are Melissa McCarthy, Luke Evans, and Samara Weaving. It will launch later this year.
7 Sky Landscapers
After has stepped down as Queen Elizabeth II’s successor, Olivia Colman will take a different path when she stars in Sky’s Landscapers.
Oscar winner Susan Edwards will portray her mother, Christopher Edwards. She was convicted of murdering her parents and then burying them in their garden at Mansfield. Sky claims that the show is based on hours of research, interviews, and direct access to the accused who have always denied their innocence of murder. 8 Anatomy Of A Scandal – Netflix
British stars Rupert Friend, Michelle Dockery, and Sienna Miller star in this series, which is based on Sarah Vaughan’s novel. It’s set in London and features the British stars Rupert Friend, Michelle Dockery, and Sienna Miller.
9 Stay Close – Netflix
Harlan Coben’s Stay Nearis being adapted into an eight-part drama starring Cushjumbo ( The Good Wifeand Good Fight),James Nesbitt, Richard Armitage and Richard Armitage. The lead characters, played by the aforementioned actors, live a normal life but hide dark secrets that their close friends would never know. But the past will soon come back to haunt them…
10 Angela Black – ITV
Joanne Froggatt of Downton Abbeyfame assumes the role Angela Black, a suburban housewife whose seemingly perfect lifestyle isn’t as it seems.
11 Stephen – ITV
ITV has ordered a trilogy of sequels to the 1999 drama The Murders of Stephen Lawrence.told the story of the horrific, racially motivated 1993 murder of a teenager from south London.
The drama was produced with the support of Stephen’s parents, Baroness Doreen Lawrence & Neville Lawrence. It will depict the events of 2006 where two of the suspected men were convicted for Lawrence’s murder. This follows a long and frustrating fight for justice from Doreen & Neville.
12 The Ipcress File ITV
An all-star cast includes Joe Cole, Tom Hollander, and Lucy Boynton. The Len Deighton novel The Ipcress Filehas now been adapted for six ITV episodes. This spy thriller is set in London in the 1960s and Berlin during the Cold War. It follows British spy Harry Palmer. The broadcaster said that the series was a’stylish and intense tale of abducted scientists and brainwashing. Inter-departmental rivalry, treason and possibly unwise love.
13 The Offenders – BBC and Amazon Prime Video
Stephen Merchant, The Officefame’s latest BBC creation is The Offenders. It follows seven strangers as they complete community service in Bristol. Merchant stars alongside Christopher Walken and Eleanor Tomlinson, as well as Rihanne Barrreto (pictured).
14 Inventing Anna – Netflix
Shonda Rhimes, the TV powerhouse behind Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, will soon bring Inventing Anna to Netflix. This dramatisation of the true story about Anna Sorokin who conned wealthy Manhattan circles through her ‘fake heiress’ character, Anna Delvey, will be available on Netflix. Ozark’sJulia Garner portrays the Sorokin. Laverne Cx and Anna Chlumsky also star.
15 Lord Of The Rings Amazon Prime Video
Amazon Prime Video is making. The series will adapt the J.R.R Tolkein classics – and later, high-budget feature films – into a series. The television adaptation, which will be set in Middle-earth and explore new storylines that predated J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring’ was a spokesperson for the fantasy series. Prime Video has announced the addition of 20 cast members, including Cynthia AddaiRobinson and Maxim Baldry.
16 Stranger Things Season 4 on Netflix
After being halted by the Coronavirus pandemic in 2003, the fourth season has resumed filming in Atlanta. Although no release date has been confirmed, a teaser trailer was already revealed. This puts to rest what we thought might happen in season four, judging from the last episode of season 3.
17 Too Close – ITV
Chernobyl’sEmily Watson portrays Dr Emma Robertson, a forensic psychiatrist who is assigned to work alongside Connie Mortenson (Denise Gough). She’s ‘a woman accused in a terrible crime but who says she can’t recall a thing.
18 Mare Of Easttown – Sky Atlantic/NOW
Kate Winslet is a small-town Pennsylvania detective who invests in a murder case. Her life is thrown into chaos and she is haunted by the guilt over an ongoing case that she has not been able solve. You can see why Winslet was so praised for her performance.
19 We Are Lady Parts Channel 4
Six-part musical comedy follows Amina (Anjana Vastan), a microbiology PhD student looking for love. She soon meets Lady Parts, an all-female punk rock band. Saira, frontwoman (Sarah Kameela Impey), Ayesha (Juliette Motamed), Bisma (Faith Olomole), and Momtaz (Lucie Shorthouse) are the band members. The rest of the band aren’t convinced Amina is the right choice for them, but Saira sees something and proposes to play matchmaker in exchange for Amina joining.

Since its weekly broadcast on the broadcaster, the sixth season of the cult TV drama about police is the talk of the town.
21 The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 Channel 4
The Coronavirus pandemic caused another delay in the fourth season of the award-winning adaptation Margaret Atwood’s classic novel. It was finally released on Channel 4 in June.
The greenlight has been given for the fifth season of this dystopian drama. We are excited to see Elizabeth Moss and OT Fagbenle back on TV, but we are also anxious to see what the next two seasons of Gilead will bring for the handmaids.

Bean plays Mark Cobden who is ‘convicted by guilt after accidentally murdering an innocent man’. He begins a four-year sentence. He meets Eric McNally (Stephen Graham), a caring prison officer who does his best to protect his prisoners. Eric is faced with a difficult choice when one of the most dangerous prisoners identifies his weaknesses. He must choose between his principles or his family.
23 The Pursuit Of Love BBC
Lily James and Emily Beecham are best friends Linda Radlett, and Fanny Logan, as they hunt for husbands. This dramatization of Nancy Mitford’s 1945 novel is three parts.
24 Behind Her Eyes – Netflix
Simona Brown is Louise (played here by Tom Bateman) and she has an affair with David, her psychiatrist boss. She then meets David’s wife Adele, played by Eve Hewson, and becomes involved in a love triangle. The show was a huge hit with viewers and can still be viewed on streaming services.
25 It’s a Sin – Channel 4
The legendary screenwriter Russell T Davies returned with It’s a Sin, which followed a group gay friends living in London during the 1980s as the Aids epidemic swept through. This was one of the most memorable shows of the year. It was well-received for its portrayal of the homophobic stigma that the gay community faced when the epidemic became public, the sheer amount and severity of the virus’ effects on the loved ones and the resulting devastation.
26 Your Honuor – Sky/NOW TV
Heisenberg (Brian Cranston), is the creator of The Good Wife. He portrays a judge trying to protect his son after he gets into a hit-and-run accident.
27 Wandavision – Disney Plus
The Disney Plus and Marvel Studios offerings chronicled two beloved characters from superhero films, Vision (Paul Bettany), and Wanda (Elisabeth Olsen). This was a cult hit when it was launched on the service earlier in the year.
28 The Serpent – BBC
The Serpent was released on New Year’s Day. It stars Tahar Rahim and Jenna Coleman, and Ellie Bamber. This international crime drama is based on Charles Sobhraj, a serial killer and conman.
